02. Explain why the thermal conductivity of zinc decreased slightly as its temperature increase.

Solution

As the temperature increase, the vibrations of the atoms increase. As a result, there are more collisions between the free electrons and zinc atoms. The mean time between collisions decrease, therefore the mean speed of the free electrons (kinetic energy) decreases. Hence, the thermal conductivity of zinc decrease slightly.
